Sustainable Weaving with Invasives and Common Garden Plants
Always wanted to weave your own basket, or learn different weaving techniques? Curious about weaving with local invasives like Scotch Broom, English Ivy, and Morning Glory, or from your garden and kitchen cast-offs, like daylily, and corn husk? Do you enjoy a bit of singing and storytelling? Maybe you’ve considered joining Wild + Alive, but life feels too busy? Join our day-long Sustainable Basket Making workshop as part of our Wild Emergence: Spring Workshop Series!
In this workshop we will:
Explore different sustainable and creative weaving materials and samples
Learn basic weaving techniques
Learn about local invasive plants, and how to mindfully harvest and process these materials and other garden cast-offs for weaving
Weave our own baskets to take home
Share a few songs, and an ancient Celtic myth about Scotch Broom, love, murder, and initiation
Beginner friendly. No previous experience necessary.
What to bring? Participants will need to bring their own lunch, water bottle and whatever else they need to be comfortable outside for the day e.g. appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather/terrain, camping chair etc.
