Robin Fagnan (Sharpy)
Youth Programs Instructor
Robin (he/him) brings a depth of experience based in three decades of work in areas such as experiential education, adventure-based learning, professional outdoor guiding, youth justice, counselling, and extensive work with people of many abilities. As a person with Type 1 diabetes, Robin also provides support to youth and adults with the challenges of living with a chronic illness.
Originally of French and Swedish background, Robin was born in the prairies in an area of many nations (Cree, Blackfoot, Métis, Sioux, and Haudenosaunee/Iroquois). Robin connected with the nature along the urban edges in a time when kids left first thing Saturday morning and came back for dinner. No helicopter parents in sight. Seeking all the mysteries in the ponds, ditches, trees and meadows; wondering about it all. His father sparked the Connection and Love of being outside on various adventures.
Arriving on Vancouver Island 25+ years ago this is now deeply home. After decades of working with people in many capacities he connected with Human Nature Counselling in 2017, and Thriving Roots in 2019 through the Wild and Alive program over the last three years. Mentoring with Thriving Roots is in deep alignment with Robin’s values of Connection, Gratitude and sparking Wonder in young minds for creating the Love of Life that is so deeply needed. Fun-loving with a youthful spirit, he recognizes that learning never stops and being an “older” doesn’t stop him from doing most anything!
